ABOUT SCOTT
Hello!
Pivots have influenced major parts of my life and career. Some pivots, such as getting married and having children, have been easy pivots to embrace. Pivots such as where to attend school – undergraduate and graduate, where to work, when to change careers, and if we should move our family, have all been pivots that at the moment were not easy to make. In hindsight, each pivot allowed me to see different perspectives and experience new potentials not considered had I not pivoted.
Perhaps narratives are information infused with spirit.
The start of Embrace Your Pivot is a pivot five years in the making. I started this offering years ago and it has gone through various iterations. Each time I started to make a move, I fell back into my rut of lacking belief in myself, my ability or wondering if anyone would be interested in what I was providing. I cannot tell you the number of times I have started only to stop time after time. What made this different was the support of coaches who became friends and my learning to practice what I preach by Embracing My Pivot.
I have had the honor of being ordained as a minister since 2004 and have served in a ministry role since 1994. There are various responses when someone calls themselves a minister, but I have always seen myself as a country boy whose calling is simply to walk with people through this journey of life. From my earliest years, I have always wanted to help people thrive. I have wanted to provide a place for people to have a seat at the table, a place where voices not always heard would be amplified, and in its most basic form, a place where people could be. I have not always done it well, but I will never give up on growing and trying! Being stuck does not have to be the concluding chapter of anyone’s life.
I have served as a medical and staff chaplain for eighteen years. My time has been spent within the adult, children, and hospice areas. I have served as an advisor for other medical facilities around the country in starting their Chaplain or Staff Support programs. Before this, I served as a campus minister on college campuses and served in various management roles from starting a Habitat for Humanity Restore, reopening a Hibbitt sporting goods store, and opening as an Assistant Manager of a Malibu Grand Prix.
While not working, I enjoy spending time with my wife of 25 years, Ruth, who works with Princeton Theological Seminary, visiting our oldest daughter who is studying at the University of Kentucky, and serving as a travel dad/coach for our youngest daughter’s softball team. I also enjoy woodworking and seeing how immense potential can come from the unlikeliest places.
